Ivan Cervantes and Thomas Oldrati E2 podium regulars in Turkey

KTM’s E2 class factory riders, Ivan Cervantes of Spain and Thomas Oldrati helped inject orange energy into the two rounds of the Maxxis World Enduro Championships this weekend in Fethiye, Turkey making the podium on both days to consolidate their second and third positions on the standings table.
Despite a tough two days of racing in hot and dusty conditions Cervantes vaulted into first place on Sunday to go one up on his second place from Saturday’s excursion. Younger factory teammate Thomas Oldrati of Italy also improved on his Saturday’s result at third to the second step on the podium.
On day one Ivan Cervantes continued his battle of attrition with eternal rival Mika Ahola, the championship leaders, the two riders who seem assured of deciding the title. Despite a small problem with stones in the early part of the race and some small mistakes towards the end of the day, Cervantes was a real match for the Finn, who eventually won by just 4.6 seconds.
Sunday’s effort, which saw Ahola in third place allowed Cervantes to edge closer to the Finn and keep his title hopes alive as the riders head for France and the two final rounds. Ahola has a 28-point advantage but there are still 50 up for grabs, which should ensure that the two final outings for the riders will deliver exciting races to the always enthusiastic French Enduro fans.
