David Knight takes the E3 Championship in Turkey with two rounds to go

KTM’s David Knight proved to be in a class of his own this weekend in Fethiye, Turkey and picked up a 2-1 result in the Maxxis E3 World Championship penultimate racing weekend to secure the world title. David, from the Isle of Man has already won two world titles but admitted that this one is special in the year where he returned to the Orange racing stable.
“It’s a great feeling and a big relief to have wrapped up the Enduro 3 championship…. I always believed that I could do it. I knew it wouldn’t be easy to win this year, it never is, but I just kept working hard and staying positive. I was a little bit nervous on day one, but I still rode pretty well. I stayed a lot more relaxed on day two and really enjoyed the day. I’m glad the second day went well because it’s good to win the championship with a day win.” David was generous with his thanks to KTM and Farioli team, his mechanic and sponsors, saying that they all had played a part in helping him to win the title.
He also said the first ever Enduro world championship round in Turkey had been a “great event” and the large and very supportive crowd created a great atmosphere and made it an occasion to remember. “It’s been a fantastic race. There were people cheering the riders on all the way around the course, kids watching everywhere. The locals really seem to appreciate the championship coming to Turkey. I’m sure the organizers will have learned a lot, but hats off to them. They did a fantastic job. It’s been good for the championship to come to Turkey. Now I can have a bit of fun in France and enjoy the final round of the series with no pressure.”
Saturday’s action saw David Knight put himself in the box seat for the title after he came in second to Sebastien Guillaume by the smallest of margins, just 10,07 seconds. The retirement Christoph Nambotin, the Manxman’s biggest rival for the title meant that at the end of the day, Knight was just one point shy of absolute victory in the class, setting the tense stage for Sunday’s race. KTM teammate Simone Albergoni who is still dealing with a painful, badly crushed finger rode a valiant race for fourth place.
The Manxman’s ride on Sunday took him to the top of the podium and gave his the title honors in the first world championship title decided so far this season. During the 2010 rounds, he has never once been off the podium, making him not just a superb rider but also a consistent one. KTM teammate Albergoni finished off the weekend with two fourth places but is still second in the championship standings.
