Motoworks / Can-Am Birch Creek AMA ATV Motocross Report

Vista, CA (5/6/2010) – After an impressive showing at round three of the AMA ATV Motocross Championships, Motoworks’ Chad Wienen and John Natalie, Jr. are sitting in the number three and four spots in the pro points chase.

High temperatures and humidity came into play this weekend at Birch Creek MX in Danville, VA, testing even the most physically fit racers’ endurance. The dry conditions also caused quite a bit of dust, but none of that seemed to matter to John Natalie. The number 13 Can-Am would keep a consistent pace in the first moto and claim a sixth place finish, but in moto two, Natalie was determined to do better. Natalie was in the top ten off the start and was fortunate enough to avoid a huge pile up that involved his teammates Chad Wienen and Jeremie Warnia. Natalie charged through traffic and was in the number three spot behind Thomas Brown at the mid-way point. Natalie applied the pressure and was able to make his move into second. Natalie would hold his position all the way to the checkered flag. Natalie’s 6-2 finishes put him in fourth overall for the day and boosted him into fourth in the points race as well. “John pushed hard this weekend and he did a great job out there,” stated Motoworks team manager Johnny Leach.

Chad Wienen was off to a good start in moto one as he took third off the line. Wienen was holding strong but appeared to encounter some issues and would drop back to fifth place by the end of the moto. Moto two did not go according to plan for Wienen as he was involved in a crash off the start that sent him to the back of the pack. Not one to give up, Wienen began making up time, and was able to work his way into seventh place before crossing the finish line. Wienen would end his day in sixth overall, but still holds down third in the pro points chase. “Chad went out there and did what he needed to do. Even though he wrecked, he still went out there and made a hard charge and that’s exactly what he needed to do to stay in the championship race,” said Leach.

Jeremie Warnia was off to a mid-pack start in moto one, and would hang on to take an eighth place finish, but in moto two, Warnia went down hard in a pile up off the start and he was unable to continue racing.

“If Jeremie and Chad weren’t involved in that crash, I think moto two would have went quite differently because they were in third and fourth off the line. Even though that happened, the team still did a great job this weekend,” Leach concluded.

The next round of the 2010 AMA ATV Motocross Championship will head to Walnut, IL on May 15th-16th where Sunset Ridge will play host as Chad Wienen will try to capitalize on his home state advantage.
